Mobile communication: standards, structures, algorithms, planning

The main aspects of creation and functioning of modern mobile communication systems – technical basis for implementation of mobile communication technologies - are considered. Even for non-specialists, the principles of mobile communication are explained, and the evolution from 2G to 4G and tendencies towards 5G are shown. The basic and specific characteristics and algorithms of 2G (GSM), 3G (UMTS), 4G (LTE/LTE-Advanced) and McWiLL mobile standards are analyzed and illustrated in detail. The principal issues of planning of modern mobile communication systems are described in detail, the most important of which is a systematic, generalized approach to the solution of this problem. The authors have deliberately paid attention, including to the «outdated» GSM standard, since the third and fourth generation standards are an evolutionary development of GSM and are system-level compatible with it. The GSM standard should be considered as a kind of technological foundation of modern and future mobile communication systems, which is the reason for such close attention to GSM in this book.
For scientists, engineers and technicians involved in the planning and organization of mobile communication networks, it will be useful as a textbook for students and postgraduates specializing in the field of info communication technologies and radio engineering.
